9. Ethics

Organizations are always being faced with ethical dilemmas and situations that affect their decision-making.

For businesses to be successful, they need to be able to resolve ethical issues that may arise in the workplace.

Resolving ethical issues within an organization takes time, communication, and implementation.

Managers have to communicate to other employees what is expected of them of how they should react in an ethical situation.

Ethical issues can destroy an organization if they are not attacked with a strong approach.

Examples of ethical issues in organisational behaviour:

o   Hiring of friends or acquaintances

o   Discriminating against others based on race

o   Human rights violations, specifically the working conditions in foreign manufacturing plants

o   Child labour

Organizations should take a structured approach to resolve ethical issues.

Six ethical decision-making steps organizations should follow to identify and rectify issues include:

o   Issue clarification

o   Stakeholder analysis

o   Values identification

o   Issue resolution

o   Addressing objectives

o   Resolution implementation.
